About Fiona Blume

Hello and welcome! I’m an internationally certified vocal coach, vocologist, and voice scientist with a true passion for helping voices shine. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance and in Voice pedagogy, and a Master’s in Voice Therapy. I am currently also part of the expert team at the Utah Center for Vocology at the University of Utah, where I research cutting-edge techniques in vocal health and voice science. I love what I do and am constantly exploring the latest innovations to help you reach your fullest vocal potential. My journey with music started in early childhood, singing with my family, who all love music. You can see pictures of me at 3 years old playing the piano and singing. Singing was always, and will always be what brings joy to my life. I am happy to say that I also have the chance of being a professional vocalist. I constantly have the privilege of performing both as a solo artist and collaborating with other talented musicians. Teaching though, is my true passion. Being immersed in the science of vocal production, and witnessing my student's growth and increased confidence over time, brings me immense joy. I take pride in being kind, patient, and understanding, regardless of my students learning and experience levels. Over the years, I have continued to train my own voice with renowned vocal coaches, and keeping my knowledge up-to-date through workshops, symposiums, and conferences on vocal science and pedagogy. Here’s a sample of my ongoing professional development: -Belting Techniques – Barry University, United States (2022) -PEVOC - 2019 in Copenhagen - 2024 in Spain -Pan American Vocology Association Symposiums – (2019-2024) -National Association of Teachers of Singing Symposiums – (2019-2024) -Voice Foundation Symposiums – (2019-2024) -Singing Workshop by Norma Winstone -Composition and Improvisation Clinic by Kris Davis -Improvisation Clinic by Michaël Attias My students successes are my greatest reward. I’d love to invite you to try my personalized, results-oriented classes. My method focuses on accelerating progress while ensuring vocal health, allowing you to grow at your own pace and see results faster. Lessons are one-on-one in my studio, but I also offer online sessions via Skype or Zoom, making it easy to learn from anywhere. If you’re ready to bring your voice to the next level, I’d be thrilled to help you get there!

Are you struggling to hit those high notes or feeling unsure about how to control your breath while singing? Do you find yourself asking, "Why does my voice crack when I sing?" or "How can I improve my vocal range?"
Maybe you are tired of following Youtube "tips" about the voice that are really not doing anything for you. Or maybe you have tried lessons before with other teachers but felt you were not improving as you wanted to. I get you, I've been there myself too, and I know how overwhelming it can be. That is why, I went and studied all the science behind vocal production and singing, to make sure I could ACTUALLY make a change for others.

I have been working and training different voices for years, in different musical genres with excellent results. During the classes you can expect specific breathing exercises, vocalization, and the study of songs and interpretation.

What technique do I use? Nowadays it is fashionable to use the name of a technique as if that was everything. I like to see singing from another point of view, based on the full awareness of the vocal tract. Learn to control the muscles involved in phonation (and relax those who do not!). Achieve a control that allows us to make the sound that we like, in a healthy and pleasant way.
Many teachers focus on rigid techniques or cookie-cutter methods that don’t take your individual needs into account. They might push you to sing in a way that feels unnatural or skip over the foundational skills that you actually need to succeed. In my lessons, we take a completely different approach. Instead of forcing you into one-size-fits-all techniques, I tailor every session to your unique voice and goals.
You won’t just be following instructions; you’ll learn why your voice behaves the way it does and how to truly master it. My unique approach combines scientifically proven vocal techniques with a deep understanding of the emotional and physical barriers that hold singers back, giving you real, lasting results.
That said, I do use the help of methods such as Bel canto, Speach Level Singing, TVS, Estill Voice training and I do train vocal effects like belting, twang, etc among others tools.

A good singer for me is a versatile artist, who can feel free to sing anything at any time. The repertoire of work is of free choice.
Lessons by being individualized, you advance at your own pace. So, no matter what style you want to sing, I can give you the right tools to achieve what you want.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I developed a passion for music when I was just 3 years old. My family would gather together and sing, and while none of us were professional musicians, those moments sparked something in me that felt natural and joyful. Singing became my outlet, and at the age of 8, I decided to take it more seriously by attending professional schools. My voice quickly became my favorite "instrument," one that I found both challenging and deeply expressive.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Absolutely! I can listen to jazz standards, soul and r&b music for hours without tiring. Artists like Ella Fitzgerald and Stevie Wonder are on my playlist constantly. Their voices are endlessly rich, and their music seems to evolve every time I listen-it's like discovering a new layer with each replay.
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

The most riveting course I offer dives into voice production, which was a part of my vocology training. Understanding how REALLY all the muscles, the breath, and resonance interact with each other to produce the voice that we hear is fascinating. Students who master these concepts learn to perform with freedom and confidence, and seeing that transformation is incredibly rewarding. Teaching students not just how to sing, but why certain techniques work and why others not. How get the sound they want, but in the most efficient way, is truly amazing.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I believe the voice is one of the most complex instruments to master. Unlike other instruments, you can't see all the things you are doing while singing. So when you make a mistake, it is really hard to understand what went wrong. It's also part of our body, influenced by everything from our emotions to our physical health. Vocalists must be aware of their body mechanics and constantly adapt. Mastering the voice requires not only skill but also a high level of self-awareness.
  • What are your keys to success?

Dedication, patience, proper personalized training routine and continuous learning are my keys to success. Music is a lifelong journey, and there is always room for growth. I also believe in connecting with each student individually and understanding their unique voice, which keeps my approach both personal and effective.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

If I could meet three musicians, it would be Ella Fitzgerald, Freddie Mercury, and Aretha Franklin. Ella, for her mastery of vocal improvisation and her warm, infectious energy; Freddie, for his theatricality and fearlessness in pushing vocal boundaries; and Aretha, for her powerful delivery and soul. I'd love to hear about their creative processes and how they brought such raw emotion into every performance.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

One memorable moment from music school was during a masterclass on vocal technique. We were asked to sing scales while focusing solely on airflow. The relationship between voice and air. It seemed simple, but we learned just how much airflow gives us all the answer to a great vocal tone. That day changed how I approached singing and is a lesson I now pass on to my students.
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I prioritize each student's personal goals and vocal health, blending technique with an understanding of their unique strengths and challenges. I also make sure my classes are engaging and fun, incorporating elements that allow students to experiment with their voice while staying safe. My goal is not only to teach students to sing but to help them find joy and confidence in their voice.
