About Benjamin
I am an alumnus of the Department of Slavic Languages at Columbia University and hold my Ph.D. in Russian literature. As a graduate student instructor, I taught beginning and intermediate Russian language courses to undergraduates, graduate students, and lifelong learners with great success.

I favor a communicative approach to foreign language acquisition that encourages you to rely on the vocabulary and grammatical constructions *you already know* to express yourself as much as possible. By becoming of a master of the tools you already have at your disposal, new language material can be understood and integrated as seamlessly as possible.
You can expect a typical tutoring session to include some active discussion of relevant grammatical concepts, oral exercises to reinforce your practical understanding of the linguistic material at hand, and a fair amount of unscripted conversation. My goal is to get you speaking Russian as much as possible!
I am very open to your input and will strive to create tutoring sessions organized around material that you want to work on and emphasize the learning style you find most effective.
Whether you are currently enrolled in Russian language classes at any level and looking for extra help, or you are interested in independent language study, you will find me a dedicated, caring, and capable instructor.
