About Andrew
I'm an Ivy League grad with over 10 years of experience working as an SAT and ACT tutor. My students have seen an average score increase of over 200 points on the SAT. I have also worked as a college level math and science tutor for the past 5 years. Currently I am a graduate student researching Arctic ecosystems and sea-ice physics, with plans to pursue a Ph.D. starting next year.

My approach to each student is catered to their individual needs. I'm very patient and I enjoy meeting new students and making sure they feel confident; trust me that I will never make you feel "dumb" or stressed for not understanding something, my goal is 100% to make sure that you achieve as much success as possible and I strive to be someone who you can be totally honest with regarding your understanding of a topic. One of the major advantages of a tutor over a teacher or TA is that you can ask questions freely with no fear of judgement or those awkward situations where a teacher thinks you should already know something you don't. I am entirely here to make sure you succeed.
My specialization is in SAT and ACT tutoring, and those lessons are broken up into taking practice tests and giving subject lessons. I will have a student take a College Board practice test ahead of our lesson together in order to obtain a baseline score for the SAT/ACT. From there I will analyze their performance in different areas of the test, and give focused lessons on those areas where they struggled the most. Then we will do another practice test followed by more lessons based on what areas they are weak in, continuing like that until the student feels confident in all aspects of the SAT. Depending on if you are interested in a quick crash course or an in-depth longer-term plan, I may also offer proctored practice tests designed to mirror the actual test as closely as possible. This can be an excellent final step for student preparation after a long-term SAT course.
In my spare time I play rugby - I love staying active, lifting and working out regularly, and I look forward to getting back into those things as we move past coronavirus.
I put a lot of effort into adapting my tutoring style to maximize the learning and success of each of my students. Where one student might need a thorough refresher on high school math, another student may need someone who pushes them to master harder and harder concepts. My subject mastery reaches up through college calculus 3 and linear algebra, and I am happy to help any students with any topic, high school or college up to that point. I am also very experienced with physics and chemistry topics through the college level, and provide tutoring for those.
I use Zoom for meetings with students (and parents in the case of high school tutoring), and I also cover the cost of an online whiteboard to facilitate back-and-forth discussion of equations and concepts with students.

I offer lower rates for high school class tutoring, at a flat rate of $40/hr. Standard rates apply for SAT and ACT tutoring, as these require the development of a much more involved coaching plan and regular parent/student updates.
