About Matthew
As a guitarist of 21 years with over a decade of teaching experience, I help students by drawing from my real world experience leading bands, playing in festivals, and composing for TV, as well as my theoretical background from my B.M. in Jazz Guitar Performance with a minor in Classical Composition. I write my own music that is a jazz infused style of math rock, chock-full of polymeters, jazz harmony, and guitar tapping.

My teaching method is tailored to the individual student and their skill level. I will construct lesson plans based on their musical goals and what they want to achieve. I keep the content engaging and fun, while also challenging them to develop their technical skills on the instrument as well as their general musicianship.
In lessons, we cover topics such as scales, chords, music theory, reading, rhythm, and improvisation. Using songs of the student's choosing as vehicles, we can learn and analyze the musical elements which are fundamental across genres. I can also help students with composing and writing their own original music.
