Justin has been a vital influence in my chess career, guiding me to a few national championships.
He had a lot of sound experience as well as advice that can assist junior and senior players.
Justin has a lot of international experience as well, which makes his role as a tutor/coach all the more important for those who wish to compete at an international level.Justin is very experienced and has a lot of knowledge to share. He has acted as head coach for national teams and has been coaching professionally since 2000. He has been actively involved in clubs and chess unions at various levels and he still actively plays chess and competes in tournaments. He has had many successes and achievements as both a player and coach and this makes Justin ideal to develop and take a player's chess to higher levels. His love and passion for the game is evident and I will highly recommended him as a coach.
Justin is the best chess coach I know. I've known him since 1986 when he played in the SA Schools Champs. Not only a good coach but brilliant player as well.
Justin is an experienced chess coach with a lot of talent to improve chess players. Patience and kindness is his gift with a impressive rating and has represented South Africa on many occasions as a coach. You can't go wrong with him if you want to improve your game or rating. He also loves people and made a good captain when we played inter region together as a team.
I have known Justin since 1980 when we first met at school. We spent pretty much all our school years together all the way through matric. We have remained very good friends since then and played rugby, cricket and chess together at school level and club level.
Justin was always the standout chess player in our school (1st team board 1 even as a junior!) and it was clear from an early age that he had that little bit extra compared to the rest of us around him. He has more insight into chess tactics and theory than anyone I have ever met through my chess days. I remember at high school he would often make more sense about openings and defences than our coach at the time. I am not saying our coach was bad at all. I mention this as Justin could make theory a lot more understandable than anyone else in our circle and he could always do it in an easily understandable way.
Justin in an immense competitor and strives for brilliance on the chess board. The man is a walking encyclopedia in as far as the history of the game and modern trends are concerned too. Justin was born to play and coach this game. He also coached my daughter and her team mates when she was at primary school in Port Elizabeth.
Justin is a former SA top 5 player and also coached the SA Schools team. I can recommend Justin as a Superprof, because he knows the game of chess better than most. He is a very clear communicator and can explain deeply tactical and complex chess situations easily to others. He is flexible and possesses a very deep background in coaching.
I would recommend Justin to anyone as a coach.
I found that I learnt a lot of logic, positional play and tactics from him which is difficult to learn by oneself.
His skills and dedication allowed me to achieve:
After only 1 year of coaching with Justin, I made my first top 10 achievement at the u/10 SA championships (6th place)
After this I made numerous top 10 finishes with my best position being 4th thanks to Justin’s coaching.
I also had the opportunity to play in a tournament in Greece in 2005 and won the brilliancy trophy at the SA Champs in one of my u/12 years.
Thank you, Justin. You are one amazing coach!
