About Berke
Hello!
My name is Berke, I'm a 21 year old musician & audio electronics engineer. I'm currently doing the last year of my BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering degree at City, University of London, where I'm about to graduate with a 1st. I'm a lifelong musician having worked with various instruments as well as digital audio. My recently submitted degree thesis consisted of a digital device concept I came up with that served as a MIDI interface between real instrumentation and digital audio, designed & programmed from scratch by myself. I'm proficient in analog & digital circuit design and Arduino programming; as well as DIY Electronics build (Music Hardware in particular). I'm very familiar with design for build and not just theory, so I would be more than happy to do a course on DIY digital device build for music or IoT. I definitely think of myself as a creative and would like to keep the lessons as such, with the taught material resulting in creative practices related to projects I could pitch or you may have in mind!
I graduated from London College of Music Electric Guitar Grade 8 in 2018 with Distinction (92/100), where I had the highest score ever in the country in Graded Examination in Music Performance in Electric Guitar. I'm also proficient in the Oud and Darbuka. I'm a 2 year contemporary trained vocalist that briefly did freelance vocalist work for producers. Since 2016, I've been working as a producer & audio engineer, contributing production and mix & mastering engineering work for my music and many collaborators. I've got 5 years of experience with Logic Pro X, 2 years experience with Studio One 4.
I would gladly provide professional training on Electric Guitar and Contemporary vocals, as I have a lot of experience teaching music theory and was taught formally by two very systematic instrumentalists and vocal coaches. I do a variety of instrumental composition involving ethnic instruments and avant-garde vocals for my material that I'm happy to go over upon request! I would say I have been producing everyday since 2016, and I'm certain I can provide unintimidating teaching over how to use a DAW for the precise background in music you have; as I believe that is very important. I believe I hold an idiosyncratic approach to building and analysing music production & specific techniques such as sampling and MIDI composition through my background of formally taught instrumentalism & music hardware design. I would love to incorporate the many elements of making music that are related to these fields into a course on Logic Pro X or Studio One, as well as any type of music production you're interested in! I would also gladly do a course on Music Theory for Modern Instrumentalism and Mainstream & Experimental Production.
I was born and raised in Istanbul, and speak completely fluent Turkish, English and French; as I did my high school studies in a French institution (Lycee Français Notre Dame de Sion Istanbul) and one of my parents are a world-renowned French Linguistics & Semiotics professor and Translator, although my first language is Turkish! I would also be more than happy to teach any of the above subjects completely or partially in Turkish or French upon request.
