About Sonja
As an degreed teacher with a second master's degree in System Engineering and an almost 30-year career in teaching--and DOING--computing and data(base) engineering and analytics, I consistently receive the highest student evaluation metrics in my university's Computing and Information Sciences department. My students appreciate my clear explanations, the many examples I give them, and the ways in which I motivate them to bring their A game to their assignments. Teaching data science is not just a job for me; it's a passion. I am dedicated to inspiring and empowering the next generation of data scientists. My lessons go beyond just technical skills; I also emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills. This starts with breaking problems down into the "questions behind the questions" and to build stepwise approaches which we can then combine into larger solutions. You will learn not just database or coding work, but hone your troubleshooting and research skills, as well.
Beyond that, I focus on real-world applications of data science, providing middle school, high school, and undergraduate students with hands-on experience and relevant case studies to enhance their learning and their job-readiness.
