About Tamsin
I began playing the harp as a child and started my professional career more than 15 years ago. I began my training in a traditional way (by ear, with a particular emphasis on improvisation and understanding the structure of music), but I have also studied music theory, and hold a master's degree in music composition from the University of Edinburgh. I also have a degree in Japanese, which has proved surprisingly useful in more ways than I would have imagined!

As I was originally trained in the traditional manner and found it extremely beneficial to my musicality, I prefer to begin by teaching students by ear to allow them to develop musically. I also find that this allows beginner students to concentrate on mastering the fundamentals of technique without being distracted by trying to read a score at the same time! I adapt my teaching methods to each student according to their wishes and individual learning styles - everyone is different! I play a wide range of music, from traditional Celtic music to South American music and jazz. I have also arranged a large number of pieces (classical and contemporary) for the harp, and would be happy to help you with your own arrangements - the lever harp is an instrument with huge potential!
