About Sofia
For 6 fantastic years, I've been showing K-12 students that biology isn't about memorizing boring vocabulary words - it's about understanding the absolutely incredible story of life itself, including YOUR life! I get so excited helping students realize that science explains everything from why they look like their family members to how their favorite pizza gives them energy to play sports. Many of my former students have gone on to pursue amazing careers in medicine, veterinary science, and environmental research, while others just gained a much deeper appreciation for the natural world that surrounds them every day.

Here's what I absolutely LOVE about biology - it's literally the science of YOU! How cool is that?! I make life science come alive by connecting every single concept to your actual world and experiences. My elementary students become "Body Detectives" as we explore how their amazing heart pumps blood, why eating vegetables gives them superpowers, and how the plants in their backyard are basically tiny food factories! Middle schoolers get their minds completely blown when we use our virtual microscope to see real living cells and they realize they're made of billions of these incredible tiny machines working 24/7! High school students dive deep into genetics ("Ever wonder why you have your mom's laugh but your dad's stubborn streak?"), ecology ("What's really happening with that climate change stuff you see on social media?"), and human biology ("What's actually going on inside your body during that intense workout?"). I use amazing interactive simulations, virtual lab experiences, and current news stories because biology is literally happening all around us every single second!
