About Charlie
I recently graduated from LSE with a First Class degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, and this autumn I'm beginning an MPhil in Economics at the University of Oxford. Politics is a subject I know well and genuinely enjoy — analysing how political systems work and how ideas shape them was one of the most engaging parts of my degree, and I like helping students find the same interest in it. I'm especially comfortable helping students turn their understanding into clear, well-argued essays, which is often where marks are won or lost.
Before university I spent a gap year working as a classroom assistant in a UK prep school and an Australian secondary school, working alongside teachers with students from primary age through to sixth form. That experience taught me how differently people learn and how much a student's confidence shapes their results.
I'm patient, reliable and easy to get on with, and I take the responsibility of tutoring seriously. I always turn up prepared, communicate clearly with students and parents, and genuinely care whether a student improves. My aim is always for a student to leave a lesson understanding something they didn't before, and feeling more capable than when they started.

I'm a recent LSE graduate (First Class, Philosophy, Politics and Economics) heading to Oxford this autumn for an MPhil in Economics. Politics was a core part of my degree — I studied British government, political theory and international politics, achieving Firsts across the politics side of my course — and I write and think about political questions for a living, which is exactly what these exams ask students to do well. I also spent a gap year working as a classroom assistant in a UK prep school (ages 7–13) and an Australian secondary school (ages 12–18), so I've worked with students across a wide range of ages and abilities in a school setting.
My method is straightforward. I start by finding out exactly where a student is struggling, then work through the underlying ideas until they're clear, and build the skill of applying them in well-structured essays. Politics rewards students who can construct a clear argument, weigh competing views, and support points with real examples, so alongside the content I focus heavily on essay technique — structure, analysis, and how to reach a justified conclusion. I set focused practice between lessons and track progress so we always know what to prioritise next.
I teach GCSE and A-level Politics and Government across the major exam boards, covering UK politics, political ideas, and global and international politics. Whether the goal is a top grade, sharper essay writing, or simply making sense of how the political system fits together, I tailor each lesson to the individual student.
Lessons are typically one hour, with longer sessions available for intensive exam preparation. Having worked with school-age students day-to-day, I adapt my manner to the age and confidence of whoever I'm teaching.
I'm based in London over the summer and moving to Oxford in late September for postgraduate study; from the autumn I continue to tutor online with more limited availability.
