About Luis
I offer patient, friendly and engaging lessons that challenge students to realise their potential. Language learning is never quick or simple but I aim to make the process as simple and easy as possible. I will show you German doesn't need to be so difficult. The sooner you start and the more mistakes you make, the better!
I hold a BA in Modern Languages from the University of Oxford (2021) and I have recently completed my MA in Translation Studies at Durham University. I have taught in Languages departments at secondary schools in Germany (2019-2022). I grew up in the South of England (London & Warwick) and started learning German in 2013. I aim to share my passion for German and show you that German can be a lot easier than you might think. I have been teaching since 2019 and online since 2020.

I welcome students learning for exams (GCSE & A-level), as well as students learning for their own personal interest/hobby, for travel, for business.
Learn to speak German with Luis through natural conversation and speaking exercises.
We will use textbooks and real-life material (simple texts, short stories, dialogues, poems, lyrics etc.) to learn vocabulary and phrases that are actually used by German-speakers. This way students see how language is actually used in real-life contexts and they make very rapid progress in the language. Students can then use the words they have learnt in context to construct their own sentences in speaking and writing.
I like also to help students to learn about German culture, history and literature — which they can read with the German they learn. If you are looking for recommendations for books, literature, songs, films in German, are preparing for a trip to Germany, then I will also be happy to help.
Every student has different goals and learns best different in ways. In our first lesson, we will discuss yours aims and interests in learning German.
Typical lesson length is 1 hour.
