About Dr shanmuga
I am Dr. Madurai Shanmuganathan Othuvar, the 21st generation Othuvar of the historic Madurai Meenakshi Amman Temple. I hold a PhD in Carnatic Music and currently serve as a Faculty member at the Tamil Nadu Government Music School. Key Achievements & Titles: Spiritual Titles: Conferred with the titles 'Thirumurai Kalanidhi', 'Thirumurai Isai Arasu', and 'Thirumurai Isai Selvar' by the prestigious Dharumapuram Adheenam. Performance Excellence: I have the unique merit of singing at over 400 Temple Consecrations (Kumbhabhishekams) and numerous concerts across Tamil Nadu. Global Presence: I have performed and conducted workshops in Australia, Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and South Africa. Online Teaching: I am currently mentoring several students across Australia and Canada via online platforms. My mission is to pass on the legacy of Tamil sacred music and classical tradition to the next generation, regardless of where they are in the world.

I offer professional online classes for students worldwide, specializing in the authentic rendering of Panniru Thirumurai (Thevaram, Thiruvasagam, etc.) and Carnatic Music. Whether you are a beginner or an advanced learner, my classes are designed to provide both technical musical knowledge and spiritual depth.
What I teach:
Thirumurai (Thevaram & Thiruvasagam): Learning the hymns in their original 'Panns' (traditional ragas) as practiced for centuries.
Carnatic Vocal: From basic exercises (Sarali Varisai) to advanced Krithis.
Theories of Music: Understanding the connection between Tamil Music (Pann) and Carnatic Music.
