I am a fully qualified Chemistry teacher with a first class honours chemistry degree and over 20 years teaching experience. I currently teach A level Chemistry at a successful sixth form college and as such have full access to excellent resources. Any sessions covered include full notes on the topic and relevant past paper questions and mark schemes. I have experience in teaching the OCR and AQA syllabus and I am also a senior examiner for OCR. First and foremost, I believe that building good working relationships with my students is extremely important, I want my students to enjoy learning Chemistry. I have the ability tо chаnge my teаching style аccоrding tо eаch student's individual requirements. Mainstream education doesn’t work for all students, some students need more time to understand, some students require a more visual way to understand concepts, some students have perfect knowledge however struggle with application of knowledge especially at A level and for some students the issues lie with language barriers and not being able to comprehend what the exam questions are asking. Once I have assessed what the issues are with the subject I aim to plan individual lessons to overcome the barrier thus achieving academic success. My approach to teaching is to simplify abstract and complex concepts, once understanding is established I work on exam questions and guide my students tоwаrds оbtаining cоrrect аnswers. I also focus on harder exam questions and the Level of Response questions in A level papers that students tend to struggle on. Regular retrieval is also important and this is incorporated into the lessons to ensure topics are not forgotten. I have excellent resources including notes, past paper questions and visual representations for teaching topics. I have been offering 1 to 1 tutoring for over 15 years now and since 2020 I have offered specialised online tutoring which is interactive and innovative for my students.
