About Merrick
I’m a guitar tutor with over 9 years of experience and a degree in music. I teach a wide range of guitar styles, including Electric, Acoustic, Classical, Bass, and Jazz Guitar. My lessons focus on building skills like improvisation, exploring chord voicings, applying music theory, and songwriting. I believe in a student-centered approach that adapts to each learner’s goals and pace. Whether you’re a young beginner or an adult returning to music, I tailor lessons to fit your needs. I’ve helped students progress from beginner levels all the way to advanced, including those performing professionally. My teaching combines technique, creativity, and theory to develop well-rounded musicianship. I encourage students to explore their own musical voice while mastering essential skills. My teaching approach for guitar is centered around helping each student find their unique musical voice. I focus not only on playing techniques but also on songwriting, lyric accompaniment, and exploring harmony. This way, students learn to create music that expresses their feelings clearly and beautifully.
I give special attention to fingerstyle techniques, guiding students to develop precision and fluidity in their playing. For those starting later in life or feeling unsure, I provide patient, step-by-step support to build confidence and progress at their own pace. I believe that anyone can grow their skills with the right guidance and practice.
We work on dynamics and expression, so playing guitar becomes more than just notes—it becomes storytelling. I also help students understand how to accompany their own songs with simple yet effective chord progressions. Lessons include practical exercises and creative projects to keep learning fun and meaningful.
My goal is to help every student enjoy playing guitar while growing as a musician. Whether you want to compose, perform, or simply play for joy, I am here to support you every step of the way.
