About Nicholas
Peace be upon you! My name is Nicholas and I have a background of experience primarily in behavioral health and crisis intervention. As early as I could remember (maybe 4 or 5 years of age), I picked up my first colored pencils and began drawing (according to my parents). Throughout the years, I would draw random animals and landscapes, draw cards for family on the holidays and around my teenage years, I'd become infatuated with graffiti and photography.
I had a great love for exploring abandoned buildings, discovering new graffiti and experimenting with light, shade, gradients and color that existed in these abandoned warehouses and buildings. This would, in turn, expand my artistic abilities and changed how I viewed the world, how I came to know who I was and what I was meant to do with this gift and it has allowed me to immerse myself into a world I didn't know existed.
Art is the gateway of expression and has no walls or boundaries. It has some rules, but they are flexible and reasonable. We have responsibilities as artists to not hide our work or messages because of fear and instead speak with confidence. What I find in students is a lack of confidence or belief in their ability to create because others have shut them out. And how I address this is first, identifying your learning style, exploring interests and things that inspire you, writing out your goals on what you want to achieve at the end and working step-by-step to give you a solid foundation.

For artistry, I am self-taught and specialize in acrylic and aerosol paint as my medium and find inspiration through my photography. When I give lessons, I focus on the basics and you will gradually progress through a mixture of homework exercises and practical application we review each class. There is hands-on instruction and some of my personality traits that help students thrive is my sense of compassion, patience, active listening and ability to adapt to different styles of learning.
What sets me apart from other tutors is that I did not go to school for art or design. It is something I picked up as a young child and grew a passion and love for over the years. I take the approach where student and teacher are one and there is no power of authority existing. It is a collaborative effort that requires patience, time and a belief that even if you think you can only draw stick figures -- with the right attitude, you can do so much more!
This also aligns with my ability to teach fitness, specifically muscle strengthening and cardio-based training for 5k, 10k and half marathon training (all of which competitions I have trained for and completed). I have a minor in Health Education from my undergraduate studies, but most of my experience has been through personal, trial-and-error and a proven path for results.

i offer personalized tutoring in art covering basic foundational instruction, sketching, drawing, still life, landscape and discuss the importance of blending colors. My rate is $30 an hour, reflecting individualized attention provided, whether sessions are in-person or online -- although most sessions are offered online for convenience.
I tailor most of your lessons to your needs whether just starting out, intermediate or your an advanced student looking to refine your portfolio.
