About Alexandra
I am a student at Virginia Tech majoring in Math and Statistics. I have been tutoring since I was a sophomore in high school where I served as a tutor to my peers, now I tutor other students at Virginia Tech. I love working with other people on math and statistics because I truly think math is fun and once you understand it it can be fun for you too.

My methodology is building confidence in my students, we all have the ability to think analytically and solve problems but may students think that they aren't a "math person" so they just can't be good at it. I had math tutor through high school and went to kimono as a child because I am not naturally a "math person" I became one.
I like to structure my lessons by having the student attempt problems before I get there so they know what the don't know, therefore our time together can be more productive. I like to start with them asking question then I answer their questions then show a few examples. Then I have them attempt a similar problem so I can see that they now understand. I like to also show them tricky problems and things that teachers like to show on exams that might trip them up if they have never seen anything like it.
I also like to teach clean math set up because most errors in young people's math comes from being unorganized and not writing out all the steps. I found that when they start to skip steps or do things in their head before they master a topic they have a harder time.

Details
For college level students I will charge $20 an hour because these courses will require more prep time on my part. I will offer a reduced rate for multiple children in one family. And I will only charge $10 an hour for students in elementary school.
