  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

    1) My love for tutoring started in high school, when I began helping classmates with math and science homework. What began as casual help quickly turned into a passion-I loved finding ways to explain tricky topics in ways that clicked for others. As I continued studying for standardized tests like the SAT and later the MCAT, I realized how much I enjoyed the strategic side of test prep, too. Tutoring combines two things I care deeply about: mastering content and helping others reach their goals.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

    2) I tutor math and science at all levels and specialize in test prep for the SAT, ACT, PSAT, and MCAT. I love working through problems that require logic, pattern recognition, or conceptual thinking-like math puzzles, passage analysis in CARS, or complex systems in biology. If I had to choose a "less favorite," it would probably be rote memorization without application-but I always try to turn even the driest material into something more engaging and digestible.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

    3) Yes-my physical chemistry professor at MIT was a huge inspiration. He had a way of explaining incredibly complex concepts using everyday examples, analogies, and humor. Whether he was comparing molecular orbitals to sandwich layers or thermodynamic principles to cooking pasta, his approach made intimidating material feel accessible and even fun. That style really resonated with how I learn, and it showed me the power of creative, student-centered teaching. It's something I've carried into my own tutoring ever since.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

    4) A great tutor is patient, adaptable, and strategic. You have to meet students where they are-whether that's building foundational skills, boosting confidence, or pushing for a top score. A good tutor can break down tough ideas in different ways and knows when to push and when to slow down. Most of all, students need to feel safe asking questions and making mistakes.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

    5) I once had a student preparing for the SAT who was convinced she "just wasn't a math person." We started each session with timed mini-challenges that focused on strategy, not just speed. Week by week, her scores improved-and so did her confidence. When she finally scored above her goal, she said, "I didn't think I could ever feel good at math." That moment reminded me that tutoring isn't just about scores-it's about helping students reframe what they believe they're capable of.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

    6) Like many students, I used to think success in science and math meant getting everything right the first time. It took years to realize that making mistakes and learning from them is part of the process. Now I help my students reframe mistakes as stepping stones instead of setbacks-it's something I still work on, even in my own learning.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

    7) I'm passionate about making learning feel less overwhelming and more empowering. Whether it's helping someone decode a dense biology passage or finally understand a tricky math concept, I love being part of those "lightbulb" moments. Outside of academics, I also love playing piano and practicing taekwondo-both help me stay focused, creative, and resilient, which I bring into my tutoring sessions too.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

    8) I'm a Superprof because I bring both expertise and empathy to every session. I've been in my students' shoes-I know what it's like to feel stuck, stressed, or behind. But I also know how to turn that around with the right strategy and support. Whether you're aiming for a perfect score or just trying to pass a tough class, I'm here to help you get there-one step at a time.
