About Filip

Hi, I’m Filip! I’m a first-year student at the University of Edinburgh, studying Mathematical Physics. I finished High School with A grades in all five of my Highers and 3 As at Advanced Higher Maths, Physics and English.

For the past two years I’ve helped S1 to S3 pupils with maths through my school’s younger year teaching programme. Working with different pupils taught me that people get stuck in different places, so I’ve learnt to explain the same idea in a few different ways until one clicks. Having sat these exams so recently, I also know which topics tend to trip people up.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing chess and poker. Both games are closely linked to mathematics: chess requires careful planning and thinking several moves ahead, while poker relies on probability and making sound decisions with incomplete information. To maintain a healthy balance with my studies, I play futsal and practise calisthenics, which allow me to switch off and return to my work with a clearer mind.

About the lesson

Lessons with me will always be friendly and laid back, with the core aim of improving your fundamental knowledge in whatever topic we’re covering.

Before each lesson I’ll drop you a message to ask what you’re struggling with. I’ll then pick out some questions we can go through together and decide what materials to cover. If something doesn’t make sense, we’ll just go back a step and build it up again, so you not only remember the content but actually understand it.

The length of the sessions are 1-2 hours, but I'm flexible with the length.
