About Cei
I am an experienced maths teacher with a strong interest in helping learners build both their mathematical understanding and their confidence.
I currently work in an Additional Learning Needs (ALN) setting, where I support learners with a wide range of abilities, needs and starting points. This has given me extensive experience adapting lessons, explaining concepts in different ways and finding approaches that work for individual learners.
I have a particular interest in supporting learners who have gaps in their mathematical knowledge, lack confidence in maths or find traditional approaches difficult. I hold a Level 2 qualification relating to dyscalculia and have developed my practice around supporting learners with maths learning difficulties.
I believe that every learner can make progress in maths when they are given the right support, appropriate challenge and time to develop their understanding. My lessons are friendly, structured and focused on making progress without creating unnecessary pressure.
Whether your child needs to catch up, prepare for an exam, strengthen their foundations or simply become more confident with maths, I will work with them to identify their needs and develop a personalised approach.

My Approach to Tutoring
I believe maths tuition should be personalised, practical and confidence-building. My aim is not simply to help learners get the right answer, but to help them understand why a method works and develop the confidence to tackle problems independently.
I adapt each lesson to the individual learner's needs, starting by identifying their current strengths, areas for development and preferred ways of learning. I use a range of approaches, including worked examples, questioning, visual representations, practical activities, problem-solving and real-life applications of maths.
For learners who find maths difficult or have gaps in their understanding, I break concepts down into manageable steps and use concrete and visual resources before moving towards more abstract mathematical methods. I also use retrieval practice and regular revisiting of previous learning to help learners retain skills and build on what they already know.
I aim to create a supportive environment where making mistakes is seen as a normal and useful part of learning. Lessons are adapted according to the learner's pace, with extension and challenge provided where appropriate.
Typical Lesson Length
Lessons are typically 60 minutes, although I can adapt the length depending on the learner's age, needs and concentration levels.
A typical lesson may include:
A short retrieval activity to revisit previous learning
Introduction or exploration of the new skill
Guided practice with support and questioning
Independent or problem-solving activities
A short review to identify progress and next steps
My Experience and Qualifications
I am an experienced maths teacher working within an Additional Learning Needs (ALN) setting, supporting learners with a wide range of mathematical abilities and learning needs.
My teaching experience includes supporting learners working towards GCSE and other secondary mathematics qualifications, as well as developing foundational numeracy skills. I have particular experience adapting maths for learners who lack confidence, have gaps in their mathematical understanding or require a more personalised approach.
I also have a Level 2 qualification relating to dyscalculia and have developed a particular interest in supporting learners with maths learning difficulties. I use approaches informed by this experience, including concrete–pictorial–abstract (CPA) methods, explicit teaching, careful questioning and structured practice.
Who I Tutor
I offer maths tuition for learners across a range of ages and abilities, particularly:
Secondary-aged learners who need additional support or challenge
Learners preparing for GCSE Mathematics
Learners who have gaps in their mathematical knowledge
Learners who lack confidence or experience anxiety around maths
Learners with additional learning needs who benefit from a more personalised approach
Whether a learner needs help understanding the basics, wants to improve their confidence, or is aiming for a particular qualification or grade, I tailor lessons to their individual starting point and goals.
