About Joe
With A levels in maths, further maths, physics and a BSc (Hons) in mechanical engineering, I have 20 years’ business experience managing / training teams. In 2009 I set up a consultancy business during which time I supported my son and daughter’s maths and science homework so they achieved A and A* grades at GCSE and A level.
In 2016 I became a college lecturer / teacher and am currently teaching GCSE maths to Year 8, 9, 10 and 11 students in a secondary school.
For extra reassurance, I have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate, valid from May 2020.
I currently teach students remotely using video conference software. One-to-one tutor sessions take place on weekday evenings, between 5pm and 9pm (check for availability).
Teaching qualifications include a Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) Level 4 Certificate (2011).
I have taught and tutored students to GCSE level under AQA and Edexcel syllabuses as well as students in sixth-form college, A level students and postgraduates.

I am a good listener and support students through checking understanding, giving feedback, encouragement and clear explanations to build competence and confidence.
I use proven teaching techniques which minimise working memory overload. These involve clear explanations followed by example-problem pairs to ensure techniques are correctly understood and applied. I have access to a library of diagnostic questions, quiz exercises and past paper questions to give your son or daughter plenty of practice to memorise techniques, develop extra confidence and improve grades.
I am currently running interactive tutoring lessons using Zoom and similar platforms; reviewing and marking up students’ work and using virtual whiteboards to demonstrate model answers.
