About Matthew
My name is Matthew Brumfield, and I have been studying guitar for 10 years. I remember being a young student and I remember the struggles I would sometimes have when trying to learn. Whether it was barre chords, improvisation, theory, notation, I had a hard time learning it. As time went on, I began to notice the patterns and the science behind everything I was doing. I would eventually join my school’s jazz band, something I was part of for 5 years. Through this experience, I learned how to read music, how to play intermediate chords, how to use different chord voicings, etc. Since attending Marshall University, I have had the pleasure of learning about classical guitar technique and pedagogy. Through these teachings, I have become equipped with a strong set of skills that have readied me to be able to teach guitar at a high level.

My lessons are always revolved around your wants and needs when learning guitar. Of course, I will guide you in terms of proper technique and practice, but my biggest concern is that you have space to find yourself.
Whether you’re wanting to learn acoustic/electric guitar or classical guitar, I take all of my students concerns and ideas seriously.
What sets me apart from every other teacher is my experience in various aspect of guitar. As a child, I first learned rock before moving on to jazz and blues. Now as an adult, I have become a professional classical guitarist.
These different genres have influenced my teaching style greatly and has helped me create an effective approach to teaching.
