About Nand

I am a Johns Hopkins University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a minor in Business Management and Entrepreneurship. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I’ve consistently taken on challenges and excelled—such as winning the state-level DECA competition and serving as Vice President of TSA in high school. These experiences in leadership, along with my strong technical and strategic skills, have prepared me to guide students in their own academic and professional pursuits.

In college, I was deeply involved in clubs and leadership initiatives, from co-leading the Johns Hopkins Men’s Club Basketball team to consulting with nonprofit organizations through SCNO. These roles helped me develop a unique perspective that I bring into tutoring, where I strive to build students' confidence and equip them with critical skills beyond just academics.

As an Advising Fellow with Matriculate, I’ve successfully helped high-achieving students navigate the college admissions process, preparing them for the SAT and providing guidance on applications that secured QuestBridge scholarships and admissions to prestigious universities like Yale and Rice. My approach emphasizes not just academic success, but also personal branding, resume building, and strategic planning—all essential for today’s competitive college admissions landscape.

I’m committed to helping students reach their full potential, whether they’re tackling high school subjects, preparing for standardized tests, or building a compelling application for top-tier colleges. With my background in STEM, business, and admissions guidance, I aim to provide a comprehensive, supportive, and inspiring tutoring experience.

1. Teaching Method and Techniques
I use a student-centered approach that builds both academic confidence and college-readiness. My techniques include:
-Personalized Academic Support: For elementary through high school, I break down core concepts and use real-world examples to make learning engaging. With four years of experience tutoring younger students, I’m adept at adapting my approach to different ages and skill levels.
-College Admissions Strategy: For high school students, I provide guidance on applications, resume building, and strategies to stand out in competitive admissions, drawing from my experience helping students earn QuestBridge scholarships and admission to top universities.
- Confidence-Building in Communication: I emphasize public speaking and self-advocacy skills, supporting students in interviews, essays, and presentations.

2. Typical Lesson Plan
Each session is tailored to the student’s level and goals:
- Skill Development: We start with a focused review and set goals for the lesson.
- Concept Exploration and Practice: For younger students, I use interactive, hands-on activities, while older students focus on higher-level problem-solving and application.
- Admissions and Career Guidance: For college-bound students, we work on resumes, cover letters, and application strategy.
- Reflection and Feedback: Every session ends with feedback and guidance on next steps.

3. What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
With experience across all school levels, I not only help students excel academically but also guide them through the entire college admissions journey. My focus on both personal growth and practical skills like resume building, combined with public speaking practice, helps students succeed academically and prepare for the future.

4. Target Audience
- Elementary to Middle School Students: Those needing foundational support across subjects.
- High School Students: Those seeking academic support in math, English, and physics or guidance in college applications.
- STEM and Career-Oriented Students: Students interested in STEM or career development, looking to build a strong academic and professional foundation.
