About Ivan
I have been working in the area of thermal-fluid science all my life. Currently, I am a mechanical engineering Ph.D. candidate at Oregon State University focusing on two-phase flow dynamics. I was a graduate teaching assistant from 2019 to 2024. I helped numerous students, and I have experience with all sorts of issues students have in the thermal-fluid science disciplines. I can teach undergraduate fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and numerical methods (including Python). I can also teach introductory CFD (computational fluid dynamics) if your university allows undergraduates to take this course.

I have 6 years of experience as a graduate teaching assistant in the upper-level undergraduate thermal-fluid science courses. Those are some of the most difficult courses in the core mechanical engineering curriculum. They are heavy on higher-level mathematics and use new physical concepts. The students usually struggle in those courses because they do not have experience applying the higher-level mathematics to practical problems and because they do not understand how to use the new physical concepts. Therefore, in my lessons, I explain how the new math and physical concepts relate to the math and concepts that the students know from high school. Such a knowledge bridge helps immensely to understand the new ideas. I think that clear explanations of the material are the most important part of teaching. I always follow students' feedback during the explanations, and if I notice a glimpse of confusion, I focus on the issue until the student understands it. Apart from that, I try to be prepared for every lesson because undergraduate students are very busy, and I must not waste their time. Usually, it means that I solve the problems before the lesson, and I can predict all the issues the student would have during the lesson. To summarize, my lessons are for the 3rd and 4th-year undergraduate mechanical engineering students who take thermal-fluid science courses. My lesson plan depends on the student's needs. If the student wants typical teaching assistance, we would go through the immediate questions the student has with the assignment. If the student wants a full-blown teaching experience, then I would identify the current state of the student's knowledge in the subject, identify goals of the student, and develop a personalized plan of lessons with the purpose of achieving the goals. Usually, in these cases, a lesson starts with a brief theoretical discussion followed by problem-solving.
