About Aymaan
I’m an international student from Kenya, currently studying mechanical and materials engineering at Western University in London, Ontario. I love playing the saxophone, cooking, and spending time with friends. In high school, I struggled with math until I found a tutor who helped me truly understand it, sparking a deep passion for the subject. Now, I want to share that passion by making math fun and engaging for my students. My goal is to teach math in a way that makes it feel intuitive and exciting—so much so that my students feel like they invented it themselves.

I aim to give my students an intuitive understanding. I deliver content so students don't have to memorize anything and enjoy learning the subject through various analogies. The IB experience allowed me to view how everything learned is applied in the real world. The high level of mathematics content covered in the IB curriculum gives me a good background and understanding of the subject. Below is a basic lesson plan for an introduction to calculus: Introduction to derivatives: 1. The Concept of Change "What are some things that change as time passes?" Examples include how fast you walk, how your height changes as you grow, and the rate at which ice melts. Derivatives help us measure how fast something is changing at a specific moment. 2. What is a Derivative? Instantaneous Change Analogy 1: Walking vs. Running Imagine walking from your house to school. You might start slowly, speed up, and then slow down when tired. Your speed is changing throughout the journey. The derivative helps us measure: How fast are you moving at this exact moment? Key Idea: A derivative tells us the instant speed at any moment, rather than the average speed over the whole trip. Mathematical Definition: This just means we’re looking at tiny changes in x to see how much f(x) changes. 3. The Power Rule - A Simple Shortcut for Derivatives Analogy 2: Birthday Candles Imagine you have a cake with candles in layers: The top layer has 3 candles. The middle layer has 2 candles. The bottom layer has 1 candle. Taking a derivative is like removing a layer and multiplying it by the number of candles. Power Rule Formula: (You bring the exponent down and reduce it by one.) 4. Practicing the Power Rule Step-by-Step Examples 5. Real-Life Applications – Why Does This Matter? Analogy 3: Melting Ice Cream Imagine holding an ice cream cone outside on a hot day. At first, it melts slowly. As it gets warmer, it melts faster. Eventually, only a puddle remains, and there’s nothing left to melt. The derivative measures how fast the ice cream is melting at each moment. Application 1: Driving a Car If you press the gas pedal, your speed increases (positive derivative). If you hit the brakes, your speed decreases (negative derivative). The derivative tells us how much your speed is changing at any moment. While the lesson may seem heavy on content rather than math, I will ask quite a few example questions as I teach. I try not to talk for the entire session and gauge the students' understanding as the lesson progresses. Having completed the program not long ago, while further advancing my math skills in university, I have been able to reflect on the areas that most students struggle in. Furthermore, I aim to teach my students how to study, a skill that many schools don't teach. I think this is an important area and will carry my students through their academic journey. I am a passionate teacher and like to bring energy to my classes to help make the lessons less boring. My lessons are for middle to high school students.

Aymaans tutoring was so much help to me, especially in regards to calculus as I’ve always struggled with it. However, he made it so easy to understand!! I recommend anyone who is struggling with math to take a lesson with him!! It honestly is 100% worth it.
