I have a bachelors in English Literature from the University of Maine, a masters in medical history and humanities from the University of York, and am currently a Ph.D student and Teaching Assistant at Binghamton University.

Many students come looking for new knowledge and information. Once that knowledge is given I believe that it is the most helpful for students to discuss the material, as we would do in a college seminar class. In regards to teaching how to write, the best way to learn how to write is to read. Therefore, I think that examples of good writing are very effective. Further, an important aspect of academic writing is organization and planning. Discussion greatly aids with this aspect of writing.
