About Ernest
I've been teaching for over 18 years now, first in Japan and now online. I'm friendly and conversational. With my diverse background and interests, I can help many different types of students. If you're studying as a hobby and like cooking, we can focus on food, movies, poetry, movies, and home renovations. I studied French culinary arts at Le Cordon Bleu. If you're more technical and scientific, my education was in metals and materials engineering. If you're in the financial field, I am a financial advisor in Canada with a life insurance license.

My approach to teaching English is sometimes unconventional because I don't teach from a confusing and wordy grammar explanation. Classes usually have the student speaking more than me, the aim is to have at least 60-40 student to teacher talk time. That looks like Q&A in full sentences, readings, conversation, presentations, and mini speeches.
In general, corrections are given immediately for accuracy exercises and given later for fluency activities. I correct students based on their preferences. If the student wants more correction, I can be very strict. If the student wants less, then the class can be relaxing and low stress.
