I'm an MFA (acting) graduate from the University of Houston with a BFA in musical theatre performance from Western Michigan University. I am excited to teach voice, speech, and acting to all levels!

About Allison
I have been performing for over a decade, and I have experience auditioning for professional actor training programs. The accents I have studied are RP, Estuary, Cockney, French, German, New York, South African, Northern Irish, and Southern. I read sheet music and play Guitar, Oboe, Clarinet, and Mallet Percussion. As a grad student, I helped teach musical theatre performance, introductory acting, and voice and speech classes.
Some of my theatre credits include Sunday in the Park with George (Dot), Into the Woods (Baker’s Wife, Witch), Heathers (Veronica), The Addams Family (Wednesday), Julius Caesar (Portia), Twelfth Night (Viola), Love’s Labour’s Lost (Princess of France), The Wolves (#7), and Marisol (June).

I have experience with Shakespearean productions as well as musicals by Sondheim and many other contemporary composers. My vocal pedagogy covers classical art songs, pop vocal technique, and the modern musical theatre singing style. I am well versed in the teachings of Stanislavsky, Meisner, Chekov, and Hagen. I am also familiar with the practices of Suzuki, Viewpoints, Laban Movement Analysis, and the Alexander Technique. As a voice and speech teacher, I have studied Knight-Thompson, Linklater, Fitzmaurice, and Estill. I specialize in phonetics using the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), healthy vocal performance techniques for students interested in "belting," and the theory of music and acting. I am excited to teach beginners, those applying to BFA/BA/MFA/MA programs, and everyone in between.
For music or theatre students, I can provide appropriate materials (monologues/songs) for auditions. Together, we can work through the pieces until they are ready to be performed. We will go over acting and music theory with supplemental worksheets and readings. For voice and speech students, we will learn the basics of IPA and dictation. If you are working on accents, we can break them down and practice with a monologue meant to be performed in that speech style. I am happy to tutor you on any materials you already have, or we can gather new pieces for you!
