About Henk
I am an engineering student at Monash and an academic at heart. I have always loved helping fellow students and cousins out with understanding difficult problems. In my year 12 year I was paid to tutor a year ten student who got his initial maths marks of barely scraping by (in the 40 to 50% range) up to the 70’s after a few lessons. It was a great experience and something I would love others to help others accomplish as well. I am originally from South Africa but fluent in English and am currently studying in English as well.

My teaching method includes helping students understand the fundamental principles on which problems are built first to get a basic understanding of the background before moving on to more specific problems. I also try to teach material in an intuitive way so that the student understands WHY he is following certain steps and not just HOW to follow them. This will help keep new learned skills and topics be committed to long term memory instead of short term. After explaining I prefer to give students practice problems to do in order to make the learning experience as active as possible and give realistic exam like problems.
