Good public speaking has become a thing, hasn't it? Some believe this thing is something you are either born/ brought up with or not. I strongly disagree with this. It is a set of teachable skills, and with practice, it is available to everyone. Building on these skills, ‘’public speaking” then becomes more just like making a connection; you are making a connection with an audience of one, two or a hundred or more and there is a reciprocal nature in that. You are in it together. So useful a skill in business, while also being very satisfying on a personal level; to learn the skills needed to articulate clearly your thoughts, goals, ideas with heft and with influence.

First we chat for 30 mins online, to set down some goals and to find out if we are a good fit. If we decide to book in a session, that first one begins to tackle the key obstacles to clear, articulate, connected speaking that has the power to hook an audiences' ear. We uncover your behaviours that may be holding you back in this area and build exercises to take with you to practice away from the session so you can achieve your goals as swiftly as possible. It is exciting to discover that what seems to be just words, carries a power beyond the spoken syllables and can affect those around you in new and astonishing ways.

Details

My rate is £125 per session which lasts an hour. From the first session you will receive a personalised warm up suited to your needs and exercises to practice that will arise out of your specific goals as a speaker because, as we all know, this work does not happen overnight.

After we work together in that first session, if we both think we are a good fit, and you would like to work more, the first session can be added to a block booking of either 5 or 10 sessions where there are discounts applied.

The 30 min free session takes place online and it is a chance for us to get to know each other and a good time for me to find out from you what your goals are, where you are struggling and what is needed to elevate your skills of communication whether they be in the boardroom, at social events, for a wedding or funeral speech, in front of one or two or many people. Good public speaking is a set of teachable behaviours that we all have access to.

Find out more about Shereen

  • When did you start acting? How did this passion find you?

My first play was in school, The Plough and the Stars, and I was hooked. I was unsure until that point whether I was going to study medicine or train as an actor but that play put medicine to bed!
  • Which artists or works affect you the most?

Right now, and it changes of course all the time, Michaela Coel has changed the way I think about the boundaries of television. Ivo Van Hove's production of A View from a Bridge took my breath away and the original Girl From the North Country at the Old Vic with original cast did the same thing.
  • What are the qualities and skill required to succeed in this area?

Talent obviously but sometimes people talents are obscured by a lack of confidence or a lack of focus and generally these things can be found in just a few sessions. Also, perseverance, resilience, a desire to do it no matter what.
  • What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

If you love it it will take all your focus so no advice needed.
  • How would you describe your passion?

Like something compulsory. I had no choice in the matter.
  • What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

I've worked a lot but I am probably most proud of the more collaborative work I've done, when the atmosphere in the rehearsal room or the atmosphere on set is one of collaboration, no small players, just everyone working together for the common aim- to create a captivating piece of theatre/television.
  • Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

I had a student once who would find a space to work in between our sessions and so she would come having made huge leaps and bounds without me. It is not always possible for students, some don't know where to begin on their own but I think the work you do alone is imperative to the process of getting into a top school and realising your full potential.
  • Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

Shaping the sessions to my student's needs- each student is very different and requires an individual approach.
