About Iliana
I'm from northern Mexico where I went to school until I was about 16 years old. Spanish is my first language. I have been tutoring friends/classmates on and off since high school and enjoy teaching and discussing all the nuances of learning a new language. I also speak some Italian (it's been a while!) and will sometimes dabble in French and German with Duo lingo.
During the day I work at a nonprofit in San Francisco. Most of the families I work with are Spanish speakers so even though my family is all in Mexico, I'm happy that I can still speak in Spanish everyday.
I'm also currently enrolled in a court interpreter program with SFSU where I'm learning legal terminology, simultaneous/consecutive interpreting, etc.

A lesson plan for me is usually divided in 3 parts: vocabulary, reading/writing, and speaking. This is of course tailored to the class level and goals of the student.
For students who want help in understanding their homework/class work: We can go over the exercises, break things down, practice and go over verbs.
For students who want to practice their Spanish: We can make it more conversational, work on expanding your vocabulary, maybe pick a Spanish book to read and talk about.
For students who want to start from the very beginning: We can go over all the basics - introducing yourself, pronouns, simple verbs conjugations, pronunciation, etc.
My approach is flexible and I'm always curious to know what students' language goal is so that I can tailor my lesson plans accordingly.
