About Sophie
I would be a strong algebra tutor because I have both the knowledge and the experience to help students succeed. I am an AP Calculus student, which has given me a deep understanding of algebraic concepts and strong problem-solving skills. Throughout high school, I have also tutored other students in math, helping them build confidence and improve their understanding of difficult topics.
This fall, I will be attending the College of Charleston Honors College, where I plan to major in Economics. My academic success demonstrates my commitment to learning and my ability to explain challenging material in a clear and patient way. I understand that every student learns differently, so I strive to adapt my teaching style to meet each person’s needs.
As a tutor, my goal is not only to help students solve problems but also to help them truly understand the concepts behind them. I am dependable, encouraging, and passionate about helping others gain confidence in math, making me a great candidate for an algebra tutoring position.

My lessons are designed to help students build confidence while developing a strong understanding of algebra. I begin by explaining each concept in simple terms before working through examples step by step. Once students feel comfortable with the material, I guide them through practice problems, encouraging them to explain their thinking so I can identify and address any misconceptions.
Rather than having students memorize procedures, I focus on helping them understand why mathematical methods work. I adapt each lesson to the student’s learning style and pace, reviewing previous concepts when needed and providing additional practice for more challenging topics. My goal is to create a supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and gaining the confidence to solve problems independently.
