About Christie
I am deeply committed to educating and assisting Learning Disabled students achieve their goals; I am uniquely qualified to help my students because I have over 25 years of experience as a Special Education Attorney and Advocate. Additionally, I taught at the K-12 level and at the college level. I assisted students who needed help with their academic subjects. And with coping skills. However, of more importance is that they needed information as to what their rights were and specific guidance as to how to ensure that they receive the services and information that will have a very pronounced effect on their academic progress. Finally, I am uniquely qualified for this course because I am the mother of an adult child who needed and received special education services from preschool through college.

Lesson Plans My lessons will be tailored to the age and educational level of the student. My lessons will be provided in the manner that best addresses the student’s learning needs. For students with attention deficit concerns, the lesson will be presented in brief segments followed by a time for the student to ask questions. There will also be a “student teacher session” which will allow the student to explain the information in his/her own words so that we all can be sure that the information conveyed was received and assimilated in the manner intended. This “student teacher session” helps to solidify the concepts in the students' minds when he/she “teaches me” what he/she has just learned. It also allows for further explanation using different modes of the subject if the student did not quite grasp the concept. At the end of the session, we will review all materials discussed strongly focusing on the areas that may have caused the student some concern. Since I have had experience providing legal information to parents and students from the K-12 and at the college level; I can provide comprehensive assistance for most students and their families. Although some LD students may not be able to master all of the Legal information presented on the first try our goal is to provide an accommodating educational experience that will allow the students to proceed at their own pace. It is my strong belief that all students learn better and retain the information that they are given if they are allowed to process information in the manner and timeframe that best suits their individual levels of comprehension and performance. If a class session has more than one student; I will set aside time outside of the class for the students to discuss concepts, assignments, etc. that they may not have completely understood. I am retired; therefore, I have the time and patience to thoroughly explain the materials until the student feels confident that he/she knows the information that was taught. I enjoy helping students learn; therefore, our sessions will be tailored to the students' comprehension of the concepts, not to a preset calendar goal. I will rephrase, repeat, or do whatever is necessary to make certain that my students fully grasp and understand the concepts that have been taught. As a former teacher and college instructor my lesson plans will be developed for the age/comprehension level of the individual student. Just as a student in school has an (IEP) Individualized Education Program/Plan; he or she will have individualized tutoring sessions.
