About Josh
I’m not your typical chess player — and honestly, that’s my biggest strength. I get told all the time, “Wait… you play chess?” And that’s exactly why I’m the right person to teach it. I started taking chess seriously in 2023 and quickly worked my way up to a 1700 Elo. Since then, I’ve been helping others learn the game the way I wish I had — with no fluff, no overcomplicated jargon, and no pressure. My approach is chill, practical, and tailored to each student. We’ll focus on the stuff that actually makes you better — not just memorising openings.

My 45-min chess lessons are clear, structured, and designed for beginners to intermediate players (roughly up to 1500-1600 level). I focus on practical improvement — not just theory — using real games, interactive puzzles, and guided thinking exercises. I’ve taught in schools and clubs, helping students of all ages develop confidence, strategic thinking, and a love for the game. Each lesson is tailored to your level: ♟️ Beginners learn piece movement, basic strategy, and how to think ahead ♟️ Improving players work on tactics, openings, positional play & game review Though I only started taking chess seriously in 2023, I’ve rapidly grown to a 1700 Elo and bring fresh insight, passion, and a relatable approach to teaching. I know what it’s like to learn the game recently — and I teach with that same clarity and energy I wish I had when starting out.
