Lesson 1: AutoCAD Basics (Week 1-2)
Objective: Learn the AutoCAD interface, basic tools, and simple 2D drawing skills.
Duration: 2 weeks
Materials: Computers with AutoCAD, handouts on basic tools and commands.
Introduction: Overview of AutoCAD interface, commands, and coordinate systems.
Core Skills: Drawing basic shapes (line, rectangle, circle), modifying objects (move, copy, rotate), and precision tools (snap, grid, and polar tracking).
Practice: Create basic 2D drawings and simple layouts.
Assessment: Students submit a basic floor plan with dimensions.
Lesson 2: Architectural CAD Basics (Week 3-4)
Objective: Learn to use Architectural CAD to design simple residential layouts.
Duration: 2 weeks
Materials: Computers with Architectural CAD, handouts on tools like wall, door, window, and dimension tools.
Introduction: Overview of architectural drawing tools (walls, doors, windows, etc.).
Core Skills: Creating walls with specified thickness, placing doors and windows, using dimensioning tools to ensure proper scaling.
Practice: Students create a basic room layout with walls, doors, and windows.
Assessment: Submit a simple residential floor plan with labels and dimensions.
Lesson 3: 3ds Max Basics (Week 5-6)
Objective: Learn to create 3D models and manipulate basic shapes in 3ds Max.
Duration: 2 weeks
Materials: Computers with 3ds Max, tutorial files, and basic 3D modeling guides.
Introduction: Overview of 3ds Max interface, working with 3D space (X, Y, Z axes).
Core Skills: Creating and modifying basic 3D shapes (cubes, spheres, cones), using transform tools (move, scale, rotate).
Practice: Students build simple 3D shapes and understand how to manipulate them in 3D space.
Assessment: Submit a simple 3D object or model, demonstrating use of basic shapes and transformation.
Phase 2: Intermediate Skills in AutoCAD, Architectural CAD, and 3ds Max
Lesson 4: Advanced AutoCAD Techniques (Week 7-8)
Objective: Master advanced 2D drawing techniques and work with layers, hatching, and block creation.
Duration: 2 weeks
Materials: Computers with AutoCAD, handouts on layers, blocks, and advanced drawing tools.
Introduction: Working with layers, creating blocks for doors, windows, and fixtures, and using hatching for material representation.
Core Skills: Use of offset, fillet, trim, and extend commands, working with layer properties.
Practice: Students modify existing floor plans, add details like furniture, and use layers for organization.
Assessment: Submit an updated floor plan with the use of advanced tools like blocks and layers.
Lesson 5: Architectural CAD for Residential Design (Week 9-10)
Objective: Design more detailed residential layouts including electrical, plumbing, and other systems.
Duration: 2 weeks
Materials: Computers with Architectural CAD, sample residential layouts, and systems guides.
Introduction: Integrating systems into residential layouts (e.g., electrical outlets, plumbing layouts).
Core Skills: Using tools for furniture placement, electrical planning, and structural components like staircases, balconies, and windows.
Practice: Students develop a detailed floor plan that includes systems like electricity and plumbing.
Assessment: Submit a detailed residential layout plan with systems included.
Lesson 6: 3ds Max for Architectural Visualization (Week 11-12)
Objective: Learn to render realistic 3D models for architectural design.
Duration: 2 weeks
Materials: Computers with 3ds Max, tutorial files on lighting and materials.
Introduction: Working with textures, materials, and lighting to create realistic 3D renders.
Core Skills: Adding materials (wood, glass, concrete), adjusting lighting (natural and artificial), and creating camera views for rendering.
Practice: Students apply textures to a simple 3D model of a room or house and render their first image.
Assessment: Submit a rendered 3D model of a room with applied textures and lighting.
Phase 3: Residential Project Design and Final Completion
Lesson 7: Comprehensive Residential Floor Plan Design (Week 13-14)
Objective: Create a detailed, fully dimensioned residential floor plan in AutoCAD and Architectural CAD.
Duration: 2 weeks
Materials: Computers with AutoCAD and Architectural CAD.
Introduction: Start with project planning, sketching, and the creation of detailed layouts.
Core Skills: Full design process, from preliminary sketches to final 2D floor plans with accurate dimensions and system integration.
Practice: Students create their own floor plans for a residential project, considering all rooms, systems (electrical, plumbing), and material selections.
Assessment: Submit a detailed residential floor plan for review.
Lesson 8: Finalizing 3D Residential Models (Week 15-16)
Objective: Finalize a complete 3D residential model and render it for presentation.
Duration: 2 weeks
Materials: Computers with 3ds Max, materials libraries, lighting setup guides.
Introduction: Refining 3D models, adding final details, and preparing for a full 3D rendering.
Core Skills: Completing the model (furniture, textures, landscaping), adjusting camera angles, setting up rendering settings.
Practice: Students complete a 3D model of their residential project and render a realistic output.
Assessment: Submit a fully rendered 3D model of the residential project for evaluation.
