About Finn
With over 5 years of experience teaching both in-person and online, I help students connect deeply with the creative side of guitar playing. I hold a Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance with a focus on Contemporary Styles, and I specialize in guiding players through composition, arranging, and original music creation. Whether you’re just starting out or refining your craft as an advanced player, I offer clear, personalized instruction that supports your growth. My teaching philosophy is rooted in exploration and expression. I encourage students to write, arrange, and develop their own musical voice through the guitar. We’ll dive into harmonic concepts, melodic invention, and even counterpoint, all applied directly to your playing and writing. I also help students learn how to record basic demos, making it easier to share and shape your ideas. Lessons are always tailored to your goals—whether that means crafting a solo piece, arranging for a band, or composing your first EP. I’ve worked with everyone from complete beginners to expert-level players aiming to sharpen their compositional skills. My teaching approach focuses on lead guitar playing with an emphasis on both creative expression and technical mastery. I help students develop strong soloing skills through targeted work on phrasing, bends, vibrato, and improvisation. We break down the art of the solo—how to tell a story with your playing, not just play fast.
Lessons cover lead techniques across blues, rock, and jazz styles, always connected to real musical context. You’ll learn how to use scales musically, build tension and release, and create your own voice on the fretboard. I guide students through phrasing techniques like call and response, rhythmic variation, and melodic shaping.
I work especially well with The Jazz Explorer and The Teenage Rebel—players who are ready to push boundaries and find their unique sound. We'll dive into modes, target notes, expressive bends, and how to shape solos with feeling. I also encourage improvisation from day one to build confidence and fluency.
Every student gets personalized feedback and support to help them grow as a lead guitarist. With consistent practice and creative focus, you’ll be shredding with confidence and playing solos that leave an impact.
