About Maya

Professional Background & Experience
My mathematical foundation is built on both rigorous academic training and substantial professional experience in quantitative analysis. I currently serve as a graduate student at Columbia University in the Applied Analytics program, where I apply advanced mathematical logic to complex datasets daily. Before pursuing my Master's degree, I worked professionally as a Revenue Analyst. In that capacity, I was responsible for overseeing financial data and performance metrics for a wide range of programs, ensuring accuracy and optimizing results through detailed quantitative modeling.

My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that math is most effectively learned when students understand its practical utility. My approach is rooted in three core principles:

Methodological Clarity: We focus on the underlying logic of Algebra and Calculus so you can tackle complex problems with confidence rather than relying on memorization.

Professional Standards: Drawing from my background in Risk and Analytics, I bring a structured, organized, and accountable approach to every tutoring session.

Strategic Academic Growth: I specialize in helping students navigate the high-pressure transitions of middle and high school math by building the same sustainable study habits that have guided my path to the Ivy League.

Your Success is My Priority
Whether we are preparing for a critical exam or mastering foundational concepts, my goal is to provide a supportive and high-energy environment. I am dedicated to helping you achieve your academic goals by sharing the analytical mindset I have developed throughout my academic and professional career.

My approach as a tutor focuses on bridging the gap between abstract mathematical theory and practical application. As a current Applied Analytics graduate student at Columbia University, I use the same quantitative logic in my degree that I teach to my students.

My Teaching Method & Techniques
Conceptual "Why" Over Rote "How": I move beyond memorizing formulas to ensure students understand the underlying logic, which is essential for mastering Algebra and Calculus.

Data-Driven Intuition: I leverage my professional background in finance to provide real-world context for mathematical concepts.

Scaffolded Problem Solving: We begin with guided examples and gradually transition to independent problem-solving to build confidence and independence.

A Typical Lesson Plan
Confidence Check (5 mins): We review previous homework to identify any lingering "pain points" or gaps in understanding.

The Core Concept (15 mins): I introduce the new topic using visual aids or real-world analogies from my work in analytics.

Active Practice (25 mins): We work through increasingly difficult problems together, focusing on strategic test preparation.

Strategic Summary (5 mins): We recap the "logic shortcuts" and key takeaways for the week.

Who the Lessons Are For
- Middle School Students: Building a solid foundation in Pre-Algebra and basic Geometry.
- High School Students: Specializing in Algebra I/II, Calculus, and Trigonometry.
- Test-Takers: Students needing strategic coaching for standardized math sections.
