About Aria
Hi! I am a high school junior with several months' tutoring experience and a passion for math and supporting others in their learning. I have earned A's in Algebra II/Trig, Pre-Calculus, and Calc I and am currently taking Calc II. I also earned a 5 on the AP Pre-Calculus exam. I recognize that every student is different, so I strive to personalize sessions to best meet the needs of my mentees. Helping others gain confidence and build skills is highly fulfilling to me, and one of my favorite things is seeing a student's face light up when they finally understand a topic!

Math can be tough, and sometimes it's hard to ask a teacher or professor for help, especially when they have a busy schedule or a teaching style that makes concepts hard for you to grasp. As a student myself, I can empathize with these experiences, and I am in a unique position to "translate" the numbers and operations of algebra, trigonometry, calculus, and other math disciplines in a way that students might find more familiar or intuitive than in-class instruction.
If mentees have no specific questions about things they have covered in class, I like to begin lessons by having students work through problems in their homework or on resource pages I create based on the content they are learning in class. As students work through the problem, I like to ask guiding questions if they get stuck on a step and will demonstrate solving strategies with a similar problem if they need more support. While my mentees are working, I take note of areas they struggle on and design a few problems for them to work on in session to build more confidence and fluency with those skills. If a mentee's teacher has provided videos or notes explaining how they prefer students to work through problems, I rely on those in my own explanations of concepts to make sure I am using terms and techniques students will already have exposure to and may be expected to use on assessments.
If they believe they will benefit from it, I also work with mentees on developing study skills and setting goals. Often, a little bit more motivation to study outside of class or complete homework assignments is all that a student needs to fill in any gaps that they have in understanding. If mentees do not have access to solution manuals or answer keys, I am also happy to correct homework assignments that they have completed, in or out of session, so they can check their progress.
I am equipped to support students in a variety of high school and college-level Gen Ed math courses ranging from algebra to calculus, the exception being statistics.
