About Issie

PhD Biomedical Scientist | Postdoctoral Researcher | University Lecturer | Biology, Biomedical Science & Medicine Tutor

Whether you're aiming for a Grade 9 at GCSE, an A* at A-Level, a First-Class degree at university, or preparing for postgraduate research, I provide expert tuition grounded in real scientific research, university teaching, and practical laboratory experience. I am a PhD-qualified Biomedical Scientist, Postdoctoral Researcher, and University Lecturer with extensive experience teaching and mentoring students from GCSE and A-Level through to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level.

Alongside private tutoring, I actively conduct translational biomedical research, teach medical and biomedical science students at university, supervise practical laboratory sessions, and mentor students through dissertations, research projects, and postgraduate study. Unlike many tutors, I don't simply teach from a textbook—I apply biology every day through laboratory research, scientific publishing, grant writing, and higher education teaching. My students benefit from learning directly from someone working at the forefront of molecular medicine, gene editing, regenerative medicine, and translational biomedical science. My teaching philosophy is simple: understanding beats memorisation. Rather than encouraging students to memorise endless facts, I help them understand the biological principles behind each topic, enabling them to answer unfamiliar questions confidently and develop genuine scientific thinking.

Why Choose Me?
I combine experience across academia, biomedical research, diagnostics, higher education, and industry to provide tuition that goes far beyond exam preparation. Throughout my career I have:
PhD in Molecular Therapies for Cystic Fibrosis
Postdoctoral Researcher at City St George's, University of London
University Lecturer and Small Group Tutor
First-Class BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science graduate
Stem Cell & Regenerative Therapies postgraduate qualification from King's College London
Lead Applicant and recipient of an **£11,000 competitive Research Pump Priming Award
Published biomedical researcher with additional manuscripts under review in leading journals
Presented research at national and international scientific conferences
Award-winning scientific presenter for oral and poster presentations
Guest Lecturer for MSc Biotechnology and Medical Biotechnology students
Visiting Researcher at Kansas City University Medical Center (USA)
Molecular diagnostics laboratory experience
Intellectual Property and biotechnology commercialisation experience Enhanced DBS Checked
Passionate about helping students build confidence as well as achieve exceptional academic results.

My University Teaching Experience
Alongside tutoring, I have extensive teaching experience within higher education. I have taught students studying:
 • MBBS Medicine
 • Biomedical Science
 • Clinical Physiology
 • Master of Pharmacy (MPharm)
 • Postgraduate Certificate in Genomic Medicine
 • MSc Biotechnology
 • MSc Medical Biotechnology

I have designed and delivered teaching sessions, facilitated case-based learning, supervised laboratory practicals, supported dissertation projects, and mentored students throughout their academic journey. Teaching at university level means I understand exactly what examiners expect and can help students develop the analytical and scientific thinking skills needed to excel.

My Research Experience
As a Postdoctoral Researcher, I lead translational research investigating novel molecular therapeutics and airway gene-editing technologies designed to improve treatments for genetic diseases.
My work includes:
 • Leading translational biomedical research projects
 • Developing innovative gene-editing strategies
 • Designing functional laboratory assays
 • Managing collaborative multidisciplinary research
 • Writing research grants and funding applications
 • Presenting research internationally
 • Publishing scientific research
 • Supporting translational medicine from laboratory discovery towards clinical application

During my PhD I designed and validated advanced gene-editing tools for cystic fibrosis research using primary human airway epithelial cells, combining molecular biology, cell biology, live-cell imaging, electrophysiology and computational analysis. I have collaborated with internationally recognised research organisations including:
 • University College London (UCL)
 • The Francis Crick Institute
 • Kansas City University Medical Center (USA)
 • City St George's, University of London
 • University College Cork
Working in active research means I teach students using current scientific knowledge rather than outdated textbook examples.

My Teaching Philosophy
I believe that biology should never feel like a subject that requires endless memorisation. When students truly understand why biological systems work, they naturally become better at applying their knowledge to unfamiliar problems, examinations, university coursework and research.
Every lesson is personalised, engaging and designed around each student's goals. Whether you're preparing for GCSEs, A-Levels, university examinations, a dissertation, or a PhD viva, my aim is to help you build both confidence and lasting understanding. I am passionate about helping students achieve their full academic potential while inspiring curiosity, critical thinking and a genuine appreciation for the life sciences. Together, we will work towards not only excellent grades, but also the skills and confidence needed for success in higher education and future scientific careers.
