About Andrea

Hi, I’m Andréa-both a PhD candidate and a university lecturer. Because I’m still a student myself (even if it's a very advanced level), I’m uniquely placed to understand where learners struggle and how to make concepts click. Over 6+ years teaching CEGEP and university courses, I’ve built first-principles explanations that remove the need for rote memorization. I design pedagogical resources, write course notes and graded mini-projects, create clear math explainer videos, and co-authored an Algebra book for engineering students: so you learn from someone who builds the materials others study from. My lessons are friendly, rigorous, and organized; you’ll leave with concise takeaways, targeted practice, and exam strategies. Professional, reliable, and student-centered-that's the standard I bring to every session.

About the lesson

MY APPROACH (no rote memorization)

I teach for understanding first. With a researcher's depth in mathematics, I build concepts so clearly that formulas become inevitable and students can re-derive what they need instead of cramming. I use concept maps, first-principles derivations, Socratic questioning, targeted counter-examples, and quick "error analyses" that turn mistakes into reusable heuristics across Math, Statistics, Physics, Algebra, and Algorithms.

TYPICAL LESSON PLAN (60-90 min)

1. Diagnostic warm-up & objectives (5 min)
2. Concept anchor: the "why" behind the topic (10 min)
3. Guided derivation from first principles (15-20 min)
4. Worked examples exposing common traps (20-25 min)
5. Independent practice with immediate feedback (10-15 min)
6. Exam-style problems & strategy (10 min)
7. One-page takeaway & next steps (5 min)

Between sessions, you receive concise notes and targeted problem sets—never busywork.

WHAT SETS ME APART

- University-level teaching experience: I know how courses are designed and graded.
- "Derive, don't memorize" method that transfers across courses and exams.
- Structured progress tracking with clear, measurable goals.
- Friendly, rigorous coaching that builds confidence and speed.

WHO MY LESSONS ARE FOR

CEGEP and University students in Algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra, Probability/Statistics, Physics (mechanics), Discrete Math & Algorithms-support for midterms, finals, projects bridging prerequisite gaps or skills upgrading.

AVAILABILITY

In person in Montreal and surrounding areas (I drive) and online.

Andrea expertly guided me through the mathematical foundations I needed to transition from standard software development to fintech. While I’m not a quant, understanding concepts like Black-Scholes models, Monte Carlo simulations, and Greeks calculations was essential for my new role working with exotic derivatives pricing systems. Starting with only high school math, Andrea demystified stochastic calculus and risk-neutral valuation, making these intimidating topics accessible and practical. His ability to connect abstract mathematical theory to actual implementation was crucial. He gave me the quantitative toolkit I needed to bridge into fintech without becoming a full quantitative analyst. I highly recommend him to any developer needing to understand the mathematics behind financial systems.
