About Kris Anthony
I've always been the person in the room who explains things to others. Even back in college, before I ever stood at the podium, I was the one my classmates came to when something wasn't making sense (mostly before exams). That hasn't changed, it's just more official now.
I'm a microbiologist. I did my PhD in anaerobic biotechnology systems, which sounds intimidating until you realize it's essentially about understanding tiny organisms that quietly run the planet. I find that genuinely fascinating, and I've spent years figuring out how to make other people find it intriguing too.
I lectured at St. Xavier's College, University of Mumbai for a year and a half, delivering lectures, running lab practicals, setting exams, the whole thing. Then I moved to Ireland, continued my research, and kept teaching. Two countries, two very different student cultures, and one thing that stayed the same — science is hard until someone explains it the right way.
I'm direct. If something isn't working in how you're approaching a topic, I'll tell you, but I'll also show you exactly how to fix it. I don't believe in padding out sessions or making things more complicated than they need to be. We find the problem, we solve it, we move on.
When I'm not teaching or in the lab, I'm either cooking some curries, swimming in the Atlantic (mostly it is a dip). I think there's something about doing hard physical things that keeps your mind sharp. Students who push themselves remind me of that.

My lessons are a dialogue. I start every first session by finding out exactly where you are, what you need, and what's not clicking — then we build from there.
I've lectured at university level in both India and Ireland, so I understand how science is actually taught and examined. I know where students typically struggle and I know how to fix it quickly.
A typical lesson runs 60 minutes. We spend the first few minutes identifying the problem, then work through it together using real examples, diagrams and practice questions — whatever works best for you. I don't move on until you actually get it.
My lessons are suitable for:
Secondary students tackling Leaving Cert Biology and Chemistry
Undergraduate students in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Environmental Science and related subjects
Postgraduate students who need help with Research Methods, data interpretation or Dissertation writing
Anyone returning to science after a break who needs a confident and patient guide
I hold a PhD in Environmental Microbiology and have taught everything from Genomics and NGS to Bioprocess Engineering and Plant Biotechnology at university level. I also offer in-person lessons in the Limerick area and online lessons to students anywhere.
I like to show up, understand where you're stuck, and handle the rest.
