About Jack
I am a passionate philosophy educator, having spent the last 5+ years teaching philosophy at a variety of levels, including undergraduate. I recently passed my PhD with no corrections on philosophical methodology in Wittgenstein and Socrates. Being a teacher has been the most rewarding aspect of my career as an academic, and I really enjoy helping students accomplish their academic goals and develop a love for philosophical thinking.
I am actively involved in philosophical research, having recently edited a collection of essays for a prestigious academic publisher.
If you want a tutor that has:
- An in depth knowledge of UEA’s undergraduate philosophy curriculum
- Experience writing and publishing philosophical research
- Extensive and demonstrable experience in teaching
Then get in touch. No academic goal too small!

PhD graduate in philosophy, and published academic. Specialising in ancient philosophy, 20th century philosophy, philosophy of language, environmental philosophy - although I can teach all areas of an undergraduate syllabus. Particular specialisms in Wittgenstein studies, Socratic/Platonic Studies, and the work of Simone Weil. I can also help with Ancient Greek.
I have direct experience of teaching first and second year undergraduate philosophy at the UEA and currently teach accredited philosophy modules through The Crito Project.
I also have tutored philosophy at GCSE and A level and have taught philosophy in adult learning environments. I can help you with both core subject knowledge and skills development (essay writing, argumentation, research skills). I have excellent feedback from all my students!

Jack is a phenomenal teacher. He is both passionate and patient, able to talk through complex philosophical ideas in a manner that allows you to understand the entirety of a concept. Jack has helped me to grasp philosophical theories in a way that I never thought possible. Add to this a sharp whit and kind demeanour and this makes Jack an excellent choice as a teacher.
Jack is a highly-motivated and knowledgeable tutor who helped my son greatly when he was studying for his Philosophy A-Level. Jack is personable and approachable and his flexibility meant that booking tutoring times was always easy. I highly recommend Jack as a tutor.
Jack is patient and kind. He explains things in a clear way and was always very approachable. He acknowledged my own learning style and helped come up with creative ways to help the information stick! He also taught me more about essay and assessment structures and how I can communicate and structure my thoughts best
Jack is a fantastic tutor that can give explanations in layman’s terms as well going into great detail depending on the students needs. His delivery is second to none and you will be left wondering how you ever coped without his wisdom. I cannot recommend Jack enough.
