About Heba
With over a decade of experience in academia, international development, and feminist research, I bring an interdisciplinary and critical approach to tutoring. I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Anthropology at American University in Washington, D.C., where I also serve as an Adjunct Faculty member, teaching courses on Arab World Studies, Gender Theory, and Feminist Research Methodologies. My research explores gender, digital economies, and economic resistance, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa. My scholarship has been recognized with numerous research grants and fellowships, including awards from Fulbright and the Open Society Foundations. I have a forthcoming book chapter, Digital Pathways for Exiled Voices: Critical Research as a Displaced Scholar from the Global South, in Exiled Scholars in Western Academia: Refugees or Intellectuals? (Macmillan Palgrave, 2025), reflecting on the paradoxes of inclusion and exclusion in academia. I offer student-centered, rigorous, and engaging tutoring, tailored to help students develop strong critical thinking, research, and writing skills. With over eight years in academia, seven years in the nonprofit and UN sectors, and four years in the corporate world, I bring a broad, interdisciplinary approach to tutoring. As a university instructor in Washington, D.C., a published researcher, and a recipient of multiple fellowships and research grants, I offer expert tutoring in anthropology, political science, gender and feminist studies, political economy, and research methodologies, with a focus on the Arab world, decolonial thought, and global justice.
My teaching is student-centered, intersectional, and critical, emphasizing feminist, decolonial, and anti-racist perspectives. I help students develop strong analytical and writing skills by connecting theory to real-world issues, engaging in critical discussions, and refining research methodologies. Lessons are tailored to individual needs and may include conceptual breakdowns, discussions, applied case studies, and personalized feedback on essays and projects.
I speak three languages and integrate diverse perspectives into my teaching. My experience across academia, international organizations, and the private sector allows me to mentor students not just academically, but also in navigating careers in research, advocacy, and policy.
