About Maryam
I am a university academic and researcher with a PhD in Statistics from University College London (UCL) and many years of teaching and research experience. I have worked as a Lecturer and Assistant Professor in Statistics and am currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the University of Liverpool.
Alongside teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students, I have supervised numerous MPhil and PhD researchers and have taught Statistics to students from different academic backgrounds. My research spans statistical methodology, climate and environmental science, and marine science, and I have published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals.
I enjoy teaching because I like making difficult statistical ideas easier to understand. I particularly value seeing students become more confident with quantitative methods and develop the ability to analyse data and solve problems independently.
I am approachable, patient and supportive, and I adapt my explanations to each student’s background and learning needs. My goal is to create a relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their statistical skills at their own pace. I am happy to help to those with little or no statistical background.

I offer personalised online tuition in Statistics, Biostatistics, Statistics for Climate Science, R and any quantitative Data Analysis, with a focus on building genuine understanding rather than simply learning formulae or procedures.
My lessons are adapted to each student’s background and goals. I explain challenging concepts step by step, use practical examples and, where appropriate, work with real datasets in R. Topics can include, probability, statistical methods, regression, multivariate analysis, Bayesian methods, spatial statistics, research methodology, selecting appropriate statistical techniques, and interpreting and presenting results.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes and are suitable for undergraduate, MSc and PhD students, particularly those studying Statistics as well as researchers who need support with quantitative methods.
I hold a PhD in Statistics from University College London (UCL) and have many years of university teaching and postgraduate research supervision experience. My approach is patient and interactive, with an emphasis on helping students develop the confidence and skills to solve statistical problems and work with data independently.
