About Selim
He graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Turkish Music State Conservatory, with a Bachelor's degree [3.77/4.0] and a Master's degree [3.99/4.0] in Musicology and Music Theory, having been admitted with top marks. During his time at the institution, he actively pursued studies in Harmony with Nail Yavuzoğlu and Oğuzhan Balcı, Music Theory with Ayşecan Olgun and Eray Altınbüken, Makam Theory with Nurullah Kanık and Şirin Karadeniz, piano with Alper Rumelioğlu and Kandemir Basmacıoğlu, and oud with Mehmet Emin Bitmez. After 10 years in the performing arts and music higher education sectors in Istanbul, he currently resides in Alanya. I prioritize working with students aiming for Music Theory or Musicology departments at State Conservatories, or Music departments at Faculties of Education. Before starting classes, I administer a level assessment test to prospective students in the areas of ear training, rhythmic/melodic memory, solfège, dictation, and harmony. I cannot accept students who do not meet the minimum proficiency requirements, particularly in ear training and rhythmic/melodic memory. While my primary instrument is the piano, my areas of expertise include:
Basic Music Theory, Advanced Music Theory, Harmony and Counterpoint, Composition, Ear Training, Dictation, Sight-Reading, Theory and Solfège of Modal Music, and Form and Analysis in Music. The course materials are resources I personally studied during my student years and which currently form the curriculum of relevant departments in Conservatories and Faculties of Music Education.
