About MJC Piano
I hold a University Bachelor's Degree from the University of Ottawa. Much of my training comes from private study with a variety of qualified teachers in classical piano, jazz piano, drumming, and singing. I've played gigs from private parties to the National Art Center and Music Festivals.

I have an initial background in both classical Piano and Vocals, and performed with the National Arts Centre Opera Lyra Company for a number of years. I branched out into Jazz studies to become more flexible with modern styles (jazz, blues, rock, pop, funk, neo classical, etc.), improvisation and composition. I combine the best of what I learned from each approach to make you a well rounded pianist who can read and interpret sheet music but also understand the underlying theory, structures, and how to manipulate them into your own arrangements, improvisations and compositions.
I write much of my own teaching materials, and combine them with pieces from other composers that suit my curriculum. Though there is a structured curriculum, I like to lean into the personal passions of students, to keep them as motivated as possible. Many materials can be used to learn the fundamental skills, so we might as well the ones that make you happy as well as skilled.`
