About Emily
Hey, I'm Emily! I have been teaching piano and keyboard for 7 years to students of all ages, from complete beginners who have never touched a key to intermediate players working toward exams, recitals, and performance goals, and I bring genuine excitement and dedication to every single lesson I teach. Piano was my first love in music and sharing that love with students is something I never take for granted.
What makes my lessons stand out is the combination of strong classical foundation and modern relevance. I teach students to read music, build solid technique, and work through classical repertoire, but I also bring in contemporary pop styles, jazz comping, gospel technique, synthesizer and keyboard basics, and music production concepts for students drawn to that direction. I believe piano education today should open every door for a student, and my lessons are designed to do exactly that. I also focus strongly on stage performance preparation, helping students build the confidence and presence to perform beautifully not just at home but in front of real audiences. Over 7 years I have helped students pass Grade 5 through Grade 7 piano assessments, perform at school and community recitals, and develop a lasting love for the instrument. I was recognized as a Featured Piano Educator by the Colorado Music Teachers Association in 2024. My online one-to-one live lessons are focused, personal, and completely built around your goals. My piano lessons cover proper hand position, finger technique and posture from day one, note reading and music notation, treble and bass clef reading, rhythm reading and counting, scales in all major and minor keys, chord building and chord inversions, arpeggios and broken chord technique, classical piano repertoire from Baroque through Romantic periods including Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and Clementi, contemporary and pop piano styles, jazz piano comping and chord voicings, blues piano and boogie-woogie patterns, gospel piano technique, chord chart and lead sheet reading, keyboard and synthesizer fundamentals, synthesizer patches and sound design basics, digital piano navigation and settings, MIDI basics and introduction to music production, DAW integration for production-minded piano students, pedal technique and sustain pedal use, sight-reading development, music theory applied directly to the piano keyboard, improvisation and creative playing, performance expression and dynamics, recital and exam preparation, stage performance coaching, and managing performance anxiety for live situations.
