About Ivy
With more than 3 years of experience teaching guitar and a Graduate Certificate in Advanced Guitar Studies, I specialize in developing strong ear training skills for guitarists. I help students move beyond memorizing shapes and truly understand what they hear. My lessons focus on transcribing solos, identifying chord progressions, and building tonal awareness. We explore how to connect the ear to the fretboard through repetition and sound-based learning. Each exercise trains you to recognize intervals, chords, and phrasing naturally. I also teach how to develop perfect pitch and translate melodies instantly to the instrument. My approach blends theory, creativity, and a strong listening foundation. I work patiently with each student to build their confidence and control. The lessons are interactive, musical, and tailored to your goals. You’ll not only play better—you’ll hear better too. I believe that once a guitarist learns to listen deeply, everything else becomes easier. My goal is to guide students toward total musical independence and expression.

My teaching approach is centered on building complete music literacy for guitarists. I train students to read both tablature and standard notation with accuracy and confidence. Sight-reading and rhythm notation exercises are part of every lesson. I guide students to connect what they read to what they hear and play. My method is systematic, breaking reading into small, clear goals. For The Classical Purist, I emphasize tone control, phrasing, and notation fluency. For The Jazz Explorer, we dive into chord charts, rhythmic patterns, and musical interpretation. Every lesson includes hands-on reading from real pieces. I help students understand how timing, notation, and sound work together. My teaching is patient, engaging, and detail-oriented. I give ongoing feedback to build both speed and comprehension. By mastering reading, students become more independent and expressive players. Together, we open the door to all the music written for guitar.
