About Edward

I am an Ontario Certified Teacher, specializing in teaching mathematics and chemistry. I have 5+ years of experience in teaching and mentoring high school and university students. I previously studied chemistry at Princeton University and Northwestern University. Using approaches tailored to individual students, I strive to help students reach their full potential as independent, curious learners and creative, critical thinkers.

Education and Qualifications
B.Ed., Queen's University (2023)
M.Sc. in Chemistry, Northwestern University (2021)
Associate of CIRTL (Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning) (2021)
B.A. in Chemistry (Highest Honors) with Certificate in Piano Performance, Princeton University (2019)
A.R.C.T. Diploma in Piano Performance, Royal Conservatory of Music (2013)

About the lesson

I tend to emphasize conceptual understanding, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. These are the skills needed for long-term success, effective self-study, and confidence in science and math.

I always personalize my teaching strategy depending on what my student needs. For example, I can offer:
(1) "Enrichment" tutoring: I teach the student new material and assign extra homework according to their interests and passions.
(2) "Support" tutoring: The student brings pre-existing materials (homework, etc.) to each class session. I help the student work through any questions they have.

I have known Edward since we were classmates in high school. Aside from his academic excellence, he also enjoys teaching and helping others succeed. He has always been very helpful with breaking down complex problems into smaller parts and guiding others to reach the correct answer. However, in the process he also attempts to help his mentee think about the process and all given facts rather than just provide the answer, which does not help with developing critical thinking skills. Furthermore, he has a great level of patience and is willing to spend his personal time to help other students to succeed, even when he was busy. This dedication and level of empathy helped him build a strong reputation among his peers ever since. Edward has experience teaching both adults in university and students from high school through prior tutoring and teaching assistant positions, and I would highly recommend his service to anyone who is interested in improving their academics.
