About Gareth
I came to this area to study music education at Bretton Hall. I work as a school pianist, private tutor, as an accompanist (10 years with the award-winning Barnsley Youth Choir, and exam accompanist) and as a gigging musician playing keys/accordion for the Demon Barbers, Take 2 Big Band, No Mean Feet Ceilidh Band, and in musical theatre.

I teach from the ABRSM syllabus (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.) My approach is very much pupil-based according to age and requirements. Usually I take the pupil through a general foundational understanding and then work Grade by Grade, using past papers to consolidate learning. Another approach I have taken is to work topic by topic right from the basic fundamentals through to Grade 5.
Being piano-based I tend to teach a basic understanding of the keyboard layout as a model for understanding pitch and things like melodic and harmonic intervals.
Pupils can opt to take each grade exam as they reach the right level, or work through to the crucial Grade 5 paper which provides access to the higher practical grades in their voice/instrument.
