In my classical voice studio, I advocate the bel canto principles of the Italian method of singing along with most recent fact-based information coming from voice science, technology, and medicine. I believe that discovering vocal freedom is a lifelong process that is developed through conscious body mapping, heightened awareness, and the free flow of air through a fully
coordinated instrument.
Finding physical sensations and learning how to listen yourself “from the outside” are the necessary skills
to build vocal technique. Clarity of vowels, consistency in tone quality from top to bottom, musically executed phrases, messa di voce, legato, vocal agility and overall freedom of the larynx and body are the technical goals in my voice studio. These goals provide a solid foundation for vowel placement, breath control, and phrasing not only for classical genre, but also for musical theatre. After learning the basics, my students who are interested in musical theatre and CCM can safely execute more genre-appropriate techniques, such as belting, straight tone, edgy
onsets, divergent shape of the vocal tract, slightly raised larynx, and others.

I have had lessons with Mikhail for years, and I have seen so much improvement in my voice. With his guidance, I have been able to receive superior ratings in my yearly UIL solo contests and participate in my state's region choir. He tailors the music you work on to your voice, and the warm-ups are also suited to grow your vocal technique and expand your range. I have seen the singing of his older students as well, and they are all wonderful, very artistic, and mesmerizing. He has extensive experience with students of a variety of ages, from teenagers to college students and adults. Additionally, the music I've worked on has come from a variety of languages, and Mikhail makes sure to emphasize the importance of pronunciation and the style of the language in singing. Overall, I have enjoyed working with him, and I highly recommend him as your next vocal teacher!
Dr. Mikhail has been teaching my son who is a high school junior for about 3 yrs now.
